Broad bean tops in our veg boxes
Posted on April 24th, 2022 No commentsAll standard boxes have a delicious treat this week – broad bean tops! The tender leafy tops are delicious eaten raw in salads, steamed lightly or sauteed. They’re a great addition to pasta, frittata or quiche.
Broad bean plants are prone to attack from blackfly when they mature, but pinching out the non-flowering tops of the young plants ensures these pests are discouraged.
As the ‘hungry gap’ continues, we’ve also got beautiful Cornish cauliflowers from Trerair Farm in the boxes as well as organic British-grown dried lentils and canned carlin peas from Hodmedod’s.
In all this week’s veg boxes:-
*spring onions
*mixed salad leaves
*Shiitake mushrooms (Forest Fungi, Dawlish)
cauliflower (Trerair Farm, St Eval)
*dried olive green lentils (Hodmedod’s)
potatoes ‘Wilja’ (Colwith Farm, Lanlivery)Standard veg boxes also have:-
*broad bean tops
*can of carlin peas (Hodmedod’s)
swede (Trerair)* = grown to organic principles
Please wash all produce thoroughly.
