Radishes in Camel CSA’s weekly veg boxes
April 4, 2021
We’re now entering the ‘hungry gap’ in Cornwall when last year’s veg crops are almost depleted and the new spring sowings have yet to mature.
While we munch our way through the last of the leeks and the overwintered kale our team of professional growers and volunteers have been working flat out to ensure that we have early maturing spring polytunnel crops like salad leaves, radishes, spring onions, spinach, chard, white turnips, spring cabbage and broad beans.
They’ve also been busy sowing thousands more seeds. The peas are already emerging both indoors and outside, alongside parsley, beetroot, baby turnips, onions and garlic. Carrots and French beans have been sown too as well as early potatoes, kohlrabi, celeriac, cucumber, tomato and aubergine. The list is endless and there’s so much to look forward to.
What’s in all this week’s veg boxes: –
*radish bunch
*red Russian or curly kale
*purple sprouting broccoli
*mixed salad leaves or spinach/chard stir fry mix
*jar of homemade apple chutney
leeks (Trerair Farm, St Eval)
potatoes ‘Wilja’ (Colwith Farm, Lanlivery)
Standard boxes also have:-
*wild garlic leaves – foraged
cauliflower (Trerair)
