Sunny days… It’s such wonderful sowing, growing and weeding weather in Cornwall this week!

It’s time to… plant new potatoes

March 31, 2014

Our growing team had some welcome assistance from four-year-old Daisy M on Sunday, as we dug a trench for “Rocket” potatoes. Daisy also drew us this lovely picture of a “beardy gnome growing carrots”.

It’s time to… get rid of perennial weeds (the organic way)

March 18, 2014

Back-breaking work! Our volunteer work group spent Sunday morning digging out dock weed roots. The docks had been struggling to survive under a weed-suppressing layer of black plastic laid down a year ago.

Grateful thanks to the deep-digging team – Callum, Cath, Charlotte, Emily, Jane, Mark M, Mark N and Mike.

It’s time to… repair the storm damage and keep going

February 16, 2014

It could have been worse! Polytunnel doors blown off their hinges, one tunnel flooded, site waterlogged.

Repairing the damage and preparing Camel CSA’s veg boxes on Friday was quite a challenge in the rising wind and torrential rain. A big and grateful thank you to expert growers Bridget and Mark and to this week’s volunteer picking and packing team – Bob, Charlotte, Mike, Penny, Robert, Simon, Toby and Trish.

It’s time to… sow indoor radishes and tend our winter salad crops

The ground outside may be saturated, but Camel CSA’s growers have plenty to do in the polytunnels.

It’s time to… finish landscaping our wildlife pond

December 1, 2013

Our new pond is a safe refuge for the frogs and toads that eat pests in the polytunnels. Camel CSA’s volunteer growing team landscaped it on a beautiful late autumn day. Many thanks to Adrian (turf lifter extraordinaire) and the rest of the squad – Bob, Bridget, Charlotte, Jane, Mark N, Mike, Simon and Max.

Camel CSA has a glut of tomatoes this year, so we got together for another chutney-making evening. Thanks to Chris for so generously allowing us to make a chaotic, steaming, sticky mess of his kitchen and to the rest of the team – Bridget, Charlotte, Danny, Jane, Penny, Robert and Trish.
