Uchiki Kuri squash in Camel CSA’s Cornish veg boxes

We’ve now reached the time of year when we start buying in veg again from other local growers. The proportion varies from week to week, depending on what’s available on our two sites.

Mark Norman leads Camel CSA’s growing team and also supplies us with veg grown to organic principles from his own smallholding in Bodmin. The Hore family at Restharrow Farm on the Camel Estuary supply us with additional brassicas and root vegetables up to the end of spring. They don’t grow organically, but we have full confidence in their traditional growing methods.

Surprisingly, there are no wholesale suppliers of organic vegetables grown in Cornwall. When we asked our members they told us they’d rather we bought in veg cultivated locally by people we know than organic veg grown outside the county (or even the UK) and transported long distances.

In all the veg boxes:-
*squash ‘Uchiki Kuri’ (Mark Norman, Bodmin)
*kale – curly
*onions
*leeks (Mark)
cauliflower (Restharrow Farm, Trebetherick)
parsnips (Restharrow)
potatoes ‘Wilja’ (Colwith Farm, Lanlivery)

Standard boxes also have:-
*peppers – green
*cabbage ‘Tundra’
*turnips

Produce grown by Camel CSA, unless otherwise stated
* = grown to organic principles
Please wash all produce thoroughly
